On-page SEO: RingCentral blog

Fast facts

As the US blog’s manager for a large SaaS B2B company, I’m responsible for the on-page SEO in the following samples and all similar blogs on the site.

Here’s a “week in my life”:

  • Team collaboration: Every day, I work across many departments to determine relevant and important topics to target in forthcoming blogs (product marketing, industry verticals, channel partners, talent/recruitment, executive comms, campaigns, customer advocacy, and more)

  • SEO research: I choose keywords for targeting and collaborated with SEO research specialists to prioritize, based on MSV and ranking difficulty

  • SEO outlines: I craft detailed outlines and instructions for copywriters to ensure all blog posts adhere to SEO guidelines (titles, proper header format & structure, length of article, keyword focus, metadescription, alt tags, etc.)

  • Quality assurance: I do deep SEO edits on all blog drafts to ensure the highest optimization

  • Formatting and publishing: I import copy into WordPress and properly format each according to SEO best practices (keywords in headers, images with alt tags, metadescription, crosslinking, multimedia, CTAs, etc.)

  • Ongoing optimization: Working with SEO research experts, I make ongoing tweaks to blog post content to ensure it aligns best with Google Search algorithm updates and requirements

UX improvements: RingCentral Blog

In addition to all my work on the expansion of SEO, I took the initiative early in my tenure as Content Manager to improve several facets of the blog’s user experience:

  • Full design/UX refresh (now underway): I’m leading the overhaul of the entire blog’s look and feel to bring it into a more modern aesthetic. In addition, I’m focusing on ways to better promote longform content within the blog homepage and in other locations, and how to make the reading/exploring experience better for anyone who finds us.

  • Subscription process: In the past, the subscription option was anchored into the footer of the blog page, where it was hardly ever seen. I worked with the blog development team to create a bit of code we could easily drop into the body of any blog that would prompt readers to opt-in for regular updates via email from the blog.

  • On-site chatbot: The former chatbot was stodgy and too bottom-of-funnel for casual blog readers; it almost immediately directed users to sign up for a product demo. I rewrote the entire chat script to make it less formal and more friendly and helpful. It now offers multiple pieces of related content to the user and a chance to subscribe to the blog, instead of forcing them down the funnel and causing them to back out.

  • Subscriber emails & newsletters: The blog newsletter was completely neglected when I came on board, despite there being hundreds of subscribers sitting and waiting for content. I completely revamped the subscriber experience end to end: new confirmation emails, new monthly newsletter format. I even created a more tailored experience for subscribers, depending on if they were interested in small business content or articles geared toward larger companies.

While blog content has become my specialty in the last few years, I also have extensive experience writing and executing the following kinds of content:

  • Digital ad copywriting: paid search, social media, remarketing, etc.

  • Social media strategy & copy: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok

  • eBooks & technical white papers

  • Storyboarding, script writing & directing for YouTube videos

  • Infographic conceptualization & copywriting

  • Podcast hosting & production

For 5 years, I have co-hosted “Hey, Beautiful,” an increasingly popular podcast dedicated to the hit TV series How I Met Your Mother. In addition to my responsibilities as host, I am also the website builder, social media manager, podcast editor, and Patreon community coordinator.
